The Rose
Some say love, it is a river that drowns the tender reed
Some say love, it is a razor that leaves your soul to bleed
Some say love, it is a hunger an endless aching need
I say love, it is a flower and you its only seed.
It's the heart afraid of breaking that never learns to dance
It's the dream afraid of waking that never takes the chance
It's the one who won't be taken who cannot seem to give
And the soul afraid of dying that never learns to live.
When the night has been to lonely and the road has been too long
And you think that love is only for the lucky and the strong
Just remember in the winter far beneath the winter snow
Lies the seed that with the sun's love in the Spring becomes the Rose.

This tutorial was written by me on May 14th, 2013. Any resemblance to any other tutorial or tag is unintentional and is pure coincidence. Please do not claim my work as your own and do not post to any other website, blog or forum without permission from me. It is written with the assumption that you have a working knowledge of PSP and its components. It was written for PSP 9.
I recommend that you read through this or any tutorial you are attempting before starting it so you will know what to expect and how to get organized.
As with any of my tutorials when a plugin is required, change only the settings I recommend and leave the others on the default settings.
What you will need to accomplish this tutorial is the stunning art of Jennifer Janesko which can be purchased at Creative Design Outlet HERE along with her other amazing tubes. This beautiful kit by the amazing Ladyhawwk of Ladyhawwk Designs called Rose which can also be purchased at CDO HERE. Please support the arts and do not use Jennifer's tubes without a license and certainly do not share her tubes or this kit. Plugins include Alien Skin Eye Candy 5/Impact, Eye Candy 4000, dsb flux and Xero. Mask is mine and can be found right here on this blog, it's Trese Mask 298. Font is Albemerle Swash.
Let's get started...
First open your elements and tube into PSP . ( you can use my image as a reference for the elements I used) Start a new 700 x 700 white image.
Copy and paste element 9 into your new working image and resize it 70%, move it towards the bottom of the canvas and then copy and paste your tube on top of it. Resize it 90% then grab your Selection tool and set it to 30% feather on Elliptical and select the left lower part of the tube so to expose the roses on element 9 and hit delete. If needed you can move your selection by right clicking on it and holding the mouse button down while you move. Now go to Adjust/Automatic Saturation Enhancement and use these settings:
For more color depth you can apply this effect 2 or 3 times.
Next, above your background layer copy and paste element 11 and place it so the bottom portion is beneath your work and add a drop shadow:

Next, above your background layer copy and paste element 11 and place it so the bottom portion is beneath your work and add a drop shadow:
Now beneath this layer copy and paste the close up, resize it 75% and center it into the frame, use your eraser brush to get rid of any portion that is outside the frame. Then go to Effects/Plugins/Xero/Radiance and use these settings:
Then go to Effects/Plugins/Xero/Porcelain and use these settings:
Next, copy and paste frame 2 above your background layer and resize it 65% and frame out the first frame by dragging it up some...colorize it by going to Adjust/Hue and Saturation/Colorize and use these settings:
Add the same drop shadow.
Now above your background layer copy and paste paper 1, resize 50% and center under frame, use eraser tool to erase any paper protruding from the frame.
Your work should appear something like this thus far...
Now on the top of your green frame copy and paste element 15, resize it 35% and then flip and mirror it and place it to the center part of the green frame, duplicate and mirror and don't forget drop shadows.
Next copy and paste element 7 above your background layer, resize it 60% and place it around the bottom of your work, duplicate and mirror and add drop shadows to both.
The roses and leaves are pasted directly below the very first element we pasted. To add depth I applied a perspective shadow effect to the leaves...go to Effects/Plugins/Alien Skin Eye Candy 5/Perspective Shadow and used these settings:
This plugin may require a little practice. There are just a couple of important things to remember when shadowing is to attempt to make your shadows appear natural and to watch closely all the areas of whatever you're shadowing. You can view all the areas by moving the little red box around at the top of the window of this plugin...
(You can tweak your shadows by moving the nodes around in the preview window. To move one node at a time hold down your CTRL key. You can move the whole shadow by holding down your right mouse button and clicking in the middle of the shadow. It's very important to think about how a shadow would be cast realistically and how dark or how light it should be. This plugin is one of my favorites and one I use with nearly every single one of my tags.)
For the roses I also saturated the color. You can get precise sizing by using your Raster Deform tool just be sure you drag the corners evenly so as not to distort what you're resizing and don't forget drop shadows ( use the same drop shadow throughout).
Copy and paste element 9 below the paper layer and resize it 65% then place it to the top of the green frame..see my image for reference.
NOTE: If you find you're getting crowded to the edges of your canvas resize your canvas for more working space...go to Image/Canvas Size...click on the middle icon in the Placement section on the bottom left and resize your canvas enough to provide you the room you need, you can always crop and resize later.
Add a new Raster Layer above your background layer and flood fill with dark green, resize 90% and apply your mask, merge group. Then finish pasting the remaining elements into your canvas.
For each hide the original and unhide and select the middle layer, go to Effects/Bright Noise and use the same settings only increase the Intensity by 10...repeat for the last layers.
Add your name, go to Effects/Plugins/Eye Candy 4000/Bevel Boss and use these settings:
In the lighting tab you can tweak your light a bit by dragging the dot so it shows some light on your name if needed...leave the profile to factory settings.
Next go to Effects/Plugins/Eye Candy 4000/Gradient Glow and use these settings:
In the Color Tab use Black Halo and set the color to Pink with the opacity up to 90%.
Finally go to Effects/Plugins/Eye Candy 4000/Corona and use these settings:
Add your copyright taking care that it is legal and legible and we'll animate.
Open Animation Shop (AS) and go back to PSP. For the layers you applied the dsb flux effect to be sure the two top layers are hidden and the original layers are showing. Hold down CTRL + SHIFT and hit C to copy merged and go back to AS.
Hit CTRL + v to paste a new animation and go back to PSP. Hide the original layers of the layers you applied the dsb flux effect and unhide the middle layers. Hold down CTRL + SHIFT and hit C to copy merged and go back to AS. This time hold down CTRL + SHIFT and hit L to paste after current frame. Repeat for the last layers.
Now check your work...View/Animation...if you're happy with it, resize to fit your needs and save as a .gif and you're done.
Thank you for trying my tutorial. I hope you enjoyed it and maybe learned something to hone your skills. Please don't hestitate to contact me with any questions or concerns about any of my tutorials.
Blessings,
Trese
