Battle Anthem FTU Animated

Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord
He is trampling out the vintage where the grapes of wrath are stored
He hath loosed the fateful lightning of His terrible swift sword
His truth is marching on.
I have seen Him in the watch-fires of a hundred circling camps,
The have builded Him an altar in the evening dews and damps,
I can read His righteous sentence by the dim and flaring lamps,
His day is marching on.
I have read a fiery gospel writ in burnished rows of steel,
"As ye deal with my contemners, so with youu my grace shall deal,
Let the Hero, born of woman, crush the serpent with his heel,
Since God is marching on."
He has sounded for the trumpet that shall never call retreat,
He is sifting out the hearts of men before His judgment seat,
Oh, be swift, my soul, to answer Him! be jubilant, my feet!
Our God is marching on.
In the beauty of the lilies Christ was born across the sea,
With a glory in His bosom that transfigures you and me,
As He died to make men holy, let us die to make men free,
While God is marching on.
He is coming like the glory of the morning on the wave,
He is wisdom to the mighty, He is Succour to the brave,
So the world shall be His footstool, and the soul of Time His slave
Our God is marching on.

Battle Hymn of the Republic

This tutorial was written by me on November 9th, 2012. Any resemblance to any other tutorial or tag is unintentional and is pure coincidence. Please do not claim my work as your own and do not post to any other website, blog or forum without permission from me. It is written with the assumption that you have a working knowledge of PSP and its components. It was written for PSP 9.

I recommend that you read through this or any tutorial you are attempting before starting it so you will know what to expect and how to get organized.

As with any of my tutorials when a plugin is required, change only the settings I recommend and leave the others on the default settings.

What you will need to accomplish this tutorial is the absolutely beautiful art of Gaetano Di Falco which you can purchase at Creative Design Outlet HERE.  Please support the arts and DO NOT use his art without a license and certainly do not share his tubes.  You will need the supplies I have included HERE.  Plugins are Alien Skin Eye Candy 5/Impact and Eye Candy 4000.  Animation is by Lovey, her site is HERE, but I've included it in an upload for ease in finding HERE.  Font is Scurlock and can be downloaded HERE.

Ready?  Let's do this....

But first, we need to get your brushes into PSP for use.  It's just a couple easy steps.  Open the files I provided into PSP.  They're in .png format, you can also use .jpegs.  For each brush go to File/Export/Custom Brush.  Name your brush and click Ok and it's installed in PSP ready for use.

Begin by starting a new 700 x 700 white image which we will resize in the end.  Copy and paste the frame into your new canvas.  Resize the frame 60% and move it slightly to the top of your canvas.

Now add a new Raster layer above your background layer and grab your Selection Tool.  Set it to Circle with a 30% Feather and draw a circle beneath your frame then flood fill it with black.  You may need to fill several times to fill the frame and DO NOT deselect.  Add a new Raster Layer and begin applying the brush I supplied into this selected circle in the colors in your tube, including adding some black brush colors.  Repeat this until you have a nice background inside your frame.

Next, again add a new Raster Layer above your background layer and apply the same brush in black.  Apply the brush on the left side of your work first, then duplicate and mirror it.  Merge the two brush layers together and if you need to you can tweak it with your Raster Deform tool...ie, rotate, resize, etc.  Then on top of this layer add another new layer and apply the brush in the blue in the tube on the left and the orange in the tube on the right.  I'd add a new layer for each color brush just in case you need to tweak them.

Now, above your brush layers copy and paste the Decorated Floral Element, resize it by 8% and place it to the right top of your frame, duplicate and mirror it and then go to Adjust/Hue & Saturation/Colorize and use these settings:

Of course you see in the example the wings, it's okay because we are going to use these settings for colorizing the elements on the left side of your tag.

Now copy and paste the flower element on top of the decorated floral elements, resize 25%, place to the right top of your frame, duplicate and mirror and colorize as you done above.

Now on top of your frame copy and paste the Wing element, mirror it and then duplicate and mirror again, then go to Adjust/Hue and Saturation/Colorize and this time use these settings:

Now at this point, let's select our frame layer and go to Adjust/Hue and Saturation/Colorize and use the blue settings we used above, then duplicate the frame and on the new frame layer colorize it the orange color we just used.  Finally on your frame layer grab your Selection tool with the same feather but this time set it on Rectangle.  Select half of your frame on the left side and hit delete once.  Then merge the two frame layers together and add a drop shadow.

Now below your frame layer copy and paste the grungy doodle element, resize it 30% and place it to the right of your frame, then duplicate and mirror and colorize it the same blue as you've been using.

Next, above your frame layer copy and paste the black splat, resize it 50% and place it to the bottom right of your frame, duplicate and mirror it.  Then copy and paste the blue splat above these, duplicate and mirror and colorize the one on the right the orange color you used previously.

Copy and paste the bling and resize it 10%, duplicate it several times and scatter them around the top of your work, colorize the ones on the left the blue color and the ones on the right the orange color.

Now above your wings, copy and paste the grey splat, duplicate and mirror and put one on each wing.

Next, copy and paste your tube on top of your canvas.  Resize her to fit nicely into your frame.  Then go to Effects/Plugins/Alien Skin Eye Candy 5/Impact/Perspective Shadow and use these settings:

This plugin may require a little practice.  There are just a couple of important things to remember when shadowing is to attempt to make your shadows appear natural and to watch closely all the areas of whatever you're shadowing.  You can view all the areas by moving the little red box around at the top of the window of this plugin...

(You can tweak your shadows by moving the nodes around in the preview window. To move one node at a time hold down your CTRL key. You can move the whole shadow by holding down your right mouse button and clicking in the middle of the shadow.  It's very important to think about how a shadow would be cast realistically and how dark or how light it should be. This plugin is one of my favorites and one I use with nearly every single one of my tags.)

Copy and paste the Halo element below your tube and resize it to fit around her head.  You can always use your Raster Deform tool for precise sizing.

Now, in black add your name, duplicate it.  Then on each go to Effects/Plugins/Eye Candy 4000/Gradient Glow and use these settings:

Repeat it on the other with the orange colors we've been using, then to put the blue on the blue side and the orange on the orange side, grab your Selection tool with the same feather and set on Rectangle and select half of your name and hit delete once.  Merge the two name layers and add a drop shadow.

Now, add your copyright and we're going to merge some layers together and get ready to animate.  For a neat and professional-looking copyright I used a pixel font set on size six with my antialias set to off.  You can google pixel fonts and find literally hundreds of these fonts.  Note...for crisp edges with your regular fonts, set your Antialias to Sharp.

Now, hide the layers from your tube to the top and then Merge Visible.

Open Animation Shop (AS)..File/Jasc Software Products/Launch Animation Shop and then go back to PSP.  Select the layer you just merged Visible and click on the top of your canvas and go to Copy....back to AS and hold down CTRL and hit v to paste a new animation.  Open Lovey's animation and delete the black copyright layer and notice there are 24 frame left, so therefore we need 24 frames in our animation.  Click on top of the canvas you just pasted into AS  and go down to Duplicate Selected, repeat this until you have 24 frames.  If you duplicate too many simply select the extra frames and hit delete.

We need to resize Lovey's animation to 375 x 331.  Be sure you have all the frames selected by going to Edit/Select All before you resize.

Now be sure that you have all the frames selected for your animation and for Lovey's animation and that the slider bar at the bottom is all the way to the left placing you at the first frame of each animation.

It's probably a good idea to have several copies of Lovey's animation in case your first drag or two isn't right where you want it.  You want the center of the animation on the top and center of the frame in the middle of the doodles where the two colors meet but down into the frame...see my image as a reference for placement.  If you don't get your drag right where you want it the first time, just go to Edit/Undo Drag and repeat the process....just be sure you have all your frames selected and you are dragging the first frame of Lovey's animation into the first frame of your animation.

Now, go back to PSP, hide the merged layers on the bottom and unhide the top layers from your tube on up to your copyright and name then hold down CTRL + SHIFT and hit C to copy merged and go back to AS.  Hit CTRL + v to paste a new animation.  Give this new canvas 24 frames, select all your frames, be sure you're on the first frame of both this new animation and the one you've been working with.  Carefully drag the new into the previous one you've been working with.

Once you have it like you want it, check your work  by going to View/Animation.  If you're happy, resize and save as a .gif and you're done.

Thank you for trying my tutorial, I so hope you had fun with it and maybe even learned something to hone your PSP skills.  Please don't hesitate to contact me with any questions or issues with any of my tutorials.

Blessings,

Trese
