Mouth Like a Sailor

Mouth Like a Sailor

"Well I've been saved by the grace of southern charm
I got a mouth like a sailor and your's is more like a Hallmark card
If you wanna pick a fight, well I'm gonna have to say goodnight
I don't have to be hateful, I can just say, 'bless your heart.'

And even though I don't belong with your high life friends
Doesn't mean we don't get together and try to make amends
It's easier, can't you see?  Let's agree to just disagree
We don't have to like each other but it's sure fun to pretend."

Miranda Lambert lyrics

This tutorial was written by me on August 16th, 2012. Any resemblance to any other tutorial or tag is unintentional and is pure coincidence. Please do not claim my work as your own and do not post to any other website, blog or forum without permission from me. It is written with the assumption that you have a working knowledge of PSP and its components. It was written for PSP 9.

I recommend that you read through this or any tutorial you are attempting before starting it so you will know what to expect and how to get organized.

As with any of my tutorials when a plugin is required, change only the settings I recommend and leave the others on the default settings.

A good point to remember is to always refer back to the original image for size and placement and for other references needed.

What you will need to accomplish this tutorial is this lovely kit by the incomparable Crazy Carita called Fishnet.  It's a Barbara Jensen exclusive and you must use a Barbara Jensen tube with it.  You can get both on Barb's site...the kit HERE and the tube HERE. Please support the arts and DO NOT share this kit or use Barb's tubes without a license.  Plugins are Xero and Alien Skin Eye Candy 5/Impact.  Font is AL Sandra you can download HERE.

Let's get started...

First start a new 700 x 700 white image. You can resize later.  Copy and paste El8 into it and resize it 50%.   Using your Raster Deform tool ( or your Pick tool depending on which version of PSP you are using ) rotate the frame slightly to the left, move it to the left of your palette and then duplicate and mirror it.  Merge the two frames together and then give it a slight drop shadow using these settings:

Effects/3d Effects/Drop Shadow

Now copy and paste pp7 above your background layer and resize it 60%.  Use your eraser tool to erase any of the paper protruding from outside the frame.

Next, copy and paste El25 over this paper layer and resize it 75%, place it to the top of the left frame inside the frame...see my image as a reference for placement.  Duplicate and mirror it and place the duplicate to the right side of the right frame.  Give each the same drop shadow.

Now copy and paste El15 above your background layer.  Use your Raster Deform tool to move it to the bottom left of your work..Duplicate and mirror it, duplicate again and drag it to the top left of your work and then duplicate one last time and move it to the right of your work.

Next copy and paste El26, the net, above these layers, resize it 70% and place it to the top middle part of your work, duplicate it and place the duplicate to the bottom left side of your work...again refer to my image for placement.

Now begin to copy and paste the remaining elements into your canvas using my image as a reference for size and placement.  Your Raster Deform tool or Pick tool is useful for precise sizing and it prevents a lot of the distortion that happens with resizing in percentages.  Give your elements drop shadows.  Your flowers and foliage don't have to be exactly like mine...just always remember that nature doesn't grow symmetrically and evenly, it's wild and random.

Copy and paste your tube on the very top of your canvas, resize to fit into the design.  I also erased a little of the tube at the bottom by using my Selection tool with a feather of 45%.  Then go to Adjust/Automatic Saturation Enhancement and use these settings:

APPLY THIS TWICE

Then go to Effects/Plugins/Alien Skin Eye Candy 5/Impact/Perspective Shadow and use these settings:

(You can tweak your shadows by moving the nodes around in the preview window. To move one node at a time hold down your CTRL key. You can move the whole shadow by holding down your right mouse button and clicking in the middle of the shadow.  It's very important to think about how a shadow would be cast realistically and how dark or how light it should be. This plugin is one of my favorites and one I use with nearly every single one of my tags.)

I also used Perspective Shadow on my lantern to make it more 3 dimensional.

Now go to Effects/Plugins/Xero/Radiance and use these settings:

Now add your name with AL Sandra (for crisp edges on your fonts set your Antialias to Sharp) then go up to Effects/Plugins/Alien Skin Eye Candy 5/Chrome and use these settings:

Duplicate your name and then go to Adjust/Hue and Saturation and use these settings:

Now grab your Selection tool with a 70% feather and select the lower portion of your name and hit delete once or maybe twice.  Then merge the two name layers together and give them a drop shadow using these settings:

Add your copyright taking care that it's legal and legible.  For a neat and professional-looking copyright I use pixel for copy fonts.  You can Google and find hundreds of these fonts..here's a link to get you started...HERE.  These fonts usually work best with your Antialias set to off and at size six.

And we're done.  I hope you had fun with my tutorial and maybe learned something to hone your PSP skills.  Please feel free to contact me with any questions you have about any of my tutorials or with any issues with broken links, etc.

Blessings,

Trese
