Royalty PTU Animated

Everyone likes flattery;  and when you come to Royalty you should lay it on with a trowel.

This tutorial was written by me on November 19th, 2012. Any resemblance to any other tutorial or tag is unintentional and is pure coincidence. Please do not claim my work as your own and do not post to any other website, blog or forum without permission from me. It is written with the assumption that you have a working knowledge of PSP and its components. It was written for PSP 9.

I recommend that you read through this or any tutorial you are attempting before starting it so you will know what to expect and how to get organized.

As with any of my tutorials when a plugin is required, change only the settings I recommend and leave the others on the default settings.

What you will need to accomplish this tutorial is this stunning tube due to be released this week by Barbara Jensen on her site HERE.  She has two other gorgeous tubes coming out as well plus a Bonus tube you get when you spend $10 on tubes.  This absolutely beautiful kit is coming too from Crazy Carita, it's called Royal Blue.  You can get it from Barb's site as well.  Please support the arts and DO NOT use Barb's tubes without a license, and certainly do not share her tubes or this kit.  Plugins include Alien Skin Eye Candy 5/Impact and Xero.  Mask is Gabeemask 40 you can download from her site HERE.  You will need the brush I have supplied HERE.  I got this brush from a group, if it is your creation, please let me know so I can give you credit here.  Font is A&S Sarsaparilla EX you can get HERE.

Let's do this, ready?

But first, we need to get your brushes into PSP for use.  It's just a couple easy steps.  Open the file I provided into PSP.  It's in .png format, you can also use .jpegs.  For each brush go to File/Export/Custom Brush.  Name your brush and click Ok and it's installed in PSP ready for use.

Now start a 700 x 700 new white image which we will resize in the end.  Copy and paste el28 into your new canvas and resize it 80%...move it slightly to the top and give it a slight drop shadow.

Copy and paste pp2 beneath your frame and resize it 75%, then use your Raster Deform tool to drag the edges in to fit your paper into your frame.  The Raster Deform tool is one of my favorite tools and I use it constantly.  It's valuable for tweaking anything you're working on.  Resizing with it usually eliminates any distortion you get when resizing in percentages, it's perfect for precise sizing.  If you haven't already, I recommend familiarizing yourself with this tool.

Next over this paper copy and paste paper 10, resize it 80%, then grab your Selection tool with about a 10% feather and select an area beneath the frame, go to Selections/Invert and hit delete to get rid of the excess paper outside the frame.  Do not deselect.  Set the Blend mode of this paper to Hard Light and then to get our colors to blend a tiny bit better go to Adjust/Hue & Saturation and use these settings:

Now, copy and paste the close up of this tube over this paper into the selection...see my image for placement...hit delete to erase the excess parts of the tube outside the frame...set the Blend mode of this tube to Hard Light as well and take the opacity down to 30%.  Again, do not deselect...

Add a new Raster layer above this tube layer and begin to apply the brush along the edges in a gold color...now you can deselect.

Copy and paste the full length tube above this layer and then place her to the right of the frame...again, use my image as a reference for size and placement...don't forget to utilize your Raster Deform tool if needed.  Duplicate her and drag her to the top of your canvas...use your eraser tool to delete the bottom of the tube to make her appear to be coming out of the frame.

Now on your top tube layer go to Adjust/Automatic Saturation Enhancement and use these settings:

Then go to Effects/Plugins/Xero/Radiance and use these settings:

NOTE:  if you have parts of the original tube showing through, apply the same settings to it and if need be use your Selection tool to smooth out any edges that need blending.

Using my image as a reference, copy and paste the rest of the elements into your canvas and don't forget drop shadows...I used this:

For the fowl element I used a perspective shadow to give it depth.  Go to Effects/Plugins/Alien Skin Eye Candy 5/Impact/Perspective Shadow and use these settings:

This plugin may require a little practice.  There are just a couple of important things to remember when shadowing is to attempt to make your shadows appear natural and to watch closely all the areas of whatever you're shadowing.  You can view all the areas by moving the little red box around at the top of the window of this plugin...

(You can tweak your shadows by moving the nodes around in the preview window. To move one node at a time hold down your CTRL key. You can move the whole shadow by holding down your right mouse button and clicking in the middle of the shadow.  It's very important to think about how a shadow would be cast realistically and how dark or how light it should be. This plugin is one of my favorites and one I use with nearly every single one of my tags.)

Copy and paste pp10 above your background layer, resize it 85% and apply your mask.

For the animation, copy and paste el24 on the top of your canvas and place it on the left side of your framem, resize it 45%...duplicate it four times for a total of five...merge all of those layers together and colorize it the same settings as your paper earlier and give it a small drop shadow.  Copy and paste el23 on the top of your canvas, resize it 45% and place it over the top el24 element and give it the same drop shadow.  We'll come back to this for animation.

Add your name, then go to Effects/Plugins/Alien Skin Eye Candy 5/Impact/Chrome and use these settings:

Duplicate it, go to Adjust/Hue & Saturation/Colorize and use the same settings as  used previously.  Grab your Selection tool with a 35% feather set on Rectangle and select the lower portion of your name and hit delete a time or two.  Merge the two name layers together and give it a drop shadow.

Add your copyright taking care that it is legal and legible.

Now open Animation Shop (AS) and go back to PSP.  Hold down CTRL + SHIFT  and hit C to copy merged...back to AS, hold won CTRL and hit v to paste a new animation...back to PSP...carefully drag the golden element, el23 down to the second el24 element, covering it completely and hold down CTRL + SHIFT and hit C to copy merged...back to AS, this time hold down CTRL + SHIFT and hit L to paste after current frame.  Repeat the steps for the remaining elements.

Check your work in AS by going to View/Animation.  If you're happy with it, resize to fit your needs or preferences, save as a .gif and you're done.

Thank you for trying my tutorial, I so hope you had fun with it and maybe even learned something to hone your PSP skills.  Please don't hesitate to contact me with any questions or issues with any of my tutorials.

Blessings,

Trese
